The story of C&J Barbeque started on the outskirts of town in a rundown little gas station. In 1981, Chip and Jo Manning bought a convenience store down on Harvey Road near Highway 30. Soon after opening, he put in a barbecue pit. In the beginning, Chip was cooking an average of 20 pounds of meat a day. People started coming by for gas and a sandwich. The food started to get more and more popular.
By 1997, Chip and Jo decided to get out of the convenience store business and converted the store to a deli-style BBQ restaurant. In 2000, they won the Reader's Choice Award for best BBQ in the Brazos Valley. Winning every year after that, over 20 years in a row. The success of the restaurants can be attributed to an amazingly loyal and dedicated staff, quality food, low prices, and the Mannings' commitment to their staff and community.
To put it simply, it's authentic Texas BBQ done right—slow-smoked, bold flavors, and generous portions. From tender brisket and juicy ribs to classic sides made from scratch, C&J’s is your go-to for real-deal barbecue.
